Here is another exciting and delicious recipe made with bottle gourd. This is an easy and simple recipe. You just need three ingredients, sugar, milk, and of course, bottle gourd.
All you need to do is cook bottle gourd slices in sugar syrup and serve them with thick condensed milk/ rabri, keeping one slice over another, hence the name mille feuille.
The original mille feuille is a decadent dessert as the layers are made of pastries which are full of butter. In this recipe, we replace the pastry with bottle gourd slices, which are very light.
Ingredients
Bottle Gourd – 1/2 medium size
Milk – 2 cups
Sugar – 1 cup
Water – 1 1/2 cup
Process
1. Peel and cut the bottle-gourd either in thin slices or roundels. Roundels are easy to cut than thin slices.
2. In a pan, take 1 1/2 cup water and cook the bottle-gourd roundels in this water till half cooked. Now, put 1/2 cup sugar in this pan and cook the bottle gourd till translucent. Take them out carefully from the sugar syrup and drain the sugar syrup. Let them cool.
3. In another pan, take 2 cups milk and boil it. Let it simmer on a low flame until it thickens. Add 1/2 cup sugar, and cook until it is thicker than condensed milk and little runny than milk solid.
4. Assembling the dessert. On a plate, put the cooked bottle-gourd roundels and spread condensed milk on them. Now place them one above the other. You can keep five slices for each serve. Garnish with pistachios.
